Interesting. I just set this up for a friend a few weeks ago.
The Wacom UD-1212-R will work with the Keyspan USA-28X adapter and open-source software. I strongly recommend getting the Keyspan on eBay, as they can be had for less than half of retail (and finding them at retail is not an easy task). You'll likely get a brand new product with Japanese packaging, but the OS X drivers can be downloaded at <http://www.keyspan.com/support/macosx/usa/>.
The open-source Wacom software can be located at <http://tabletmagic.sourceforge.net/>. The download link is not obvious. Click the large red "X" in the top left.
