Hi David (and everyone else),

My name is David as well, I'm new to this list having purchased an AGP G4 450 a few months back. Still nesting but hopefully I can be of help occasionally, and of course need a little help occasionally.

Maybe the first thing you should do is find your 'Identity' information and 'copy' it to another disk as backup, but I can't recall where that was kept. Was it in prefs anybody? Hopefully somebody can chime in here. I think the Address Book info is also stored in there but it certainly contains your emails.

David, I am actually basing my suggestions on 'MS Outlook Express' but it is very similar to Outlook (w/o calendar) and they are both Classic MS email apps. I haven't used Outlook Express for a while, but as I recall there were two repair methods. The repair methods will probably be the same for you. The first method you should find in the same folder as the application. It is called 'Microsoft First Run'. With classic MS products, this still works as an indexing and basic app rebuild if you double click on it. Newer versions of Entourage or Office X don't provide the First Run manual feature.

If after you try this, see how things are running. Regardless of results, you might do this next. Quit the app, hold down the (I believe it was Option key), and double click the application at the same time. It should pop you the question (can't recall what it was but had nothing to do with marriage). Let the self repair procedure run. Afterwards, I would quit it and reopen the app. Hopefully this will take care of your problems. I know it fixed my problems back then with Outlook Express.

If this works, you can and probably should trash those copied files. After you restart though, I would recopy a good version to another disk. If you ever have a major crash, having this info stored somewhere else is a Godsend.

Good Luck,

David

Hi G-list,

I'm a newbie, but am amazed at the great help
people seem to be getting here. So, help, MS Outook has crashed. It
won't open
and I've lost all my email for the past year, and my address book. Is
there any
way to retrieve email? An address book? One that won't open, that is.
Also, I can't
seem to get any email programs to work: Netscape, Eudora, some others
just won't work. Maybe it's connected to the Outlook crash, but I don't
know. Any suggestions out there? I've got a Blue and white G-3 running
OS 8.6.
Thanks,
David
