...and I can only be of a little help. But perhaps someone can add
my perspective to the correct answers.

Any 68 pin SCSI drive will work on the chain. I've been told that
the speed of the SCSI bus goes down to the slowest drive on the bus.
So if you put a 7x00 speed SCSI drive along with a 10,000 rpm SCSI
drive, the faster drive will slow down to the 7x00 rpm drive. Is
this correct?

I just got a B&W that had one SCSI drive on its fast SCSI chain.
I just added another to it. The only thing I needed to do was change
the jumper on the drive so it wasn't the same as the other. The chain
appears to be terminated - or else the drive existing on the setup
was already terminated. I believe termination is more important on
fast SCSI than it was on the older systems - perhaps because of the
IDE bus on modern Macs. Someone could clarify this. That'd be nice.

I knew that the drive I put in was slower than my fastest and largest
SCSI drive I bought for an older Mac. And I suspected that the one
that came with the B&W was slower, too. So I put in ANOTHER SCSI
card, and placed the faster&bigger drive on a separate chain. Soon,
nearly everything will run off that. The other drives will be for
backup.

I now have three hard drives running nicely in OS X, and more space
than I've ever had before.

It was all easy on the B&W.

When I tried to monkey around with a beige G3 server I got six months
ago, trying to do pretty much the same thing, I proceeded to ruin
the cable, putting it in and out of the various holes. That was a
bummer.
