Sorry for being so lazy; now I have googled, read and tested.

First: what I have appearently is a Super VideoCD (SVCD). The difference is a newer and better compression scheme; should be closer to DVD than VHS-quality.

Second: there are lots of shareware VCD-players on the net. Some of them claim to be able to play SVCDs also. BUT: none of them work, unless you download and install Apples QuickTime 6 MPEG-2 components, which costs money.

So, no free solution this time folks. Though the $20 Apple asks for it is definitely worth it. And then QuickTime Player will be able to play SVCDs, and I don't have to trust amateur shareware things...

Just so you know, if anybody needed it. I spent a lot of time downloading and trying programs before I found this out
