When I went form Jag to Panther I thought it was very much worth it. Faster and much more stable. Tiger is worth it from Panther too,
Stability for me in Jaguar was as good as anything could be, as far as I'm concerned. I only had one kernal panic in Jag in 2 yrs., and it was due to a toasted compact flash reader. Tiger hasn't kernal panic'ed yet, but I haven't had it for 2 yrs. Safari has unexpectedly quit 4 times since I upgraded, so that has been worse. I honestly don't notice a significant difference in speed.
Fortunately Spotlight's underpinnings are very good and I'm sure they are going to improve on it with time.
Spotlight, as it stands, is awkward to use. I have found ways to make it less so, but as it stands, it isn't an improvement, for me. Yet. I'm sure it has potential.
Anyway, the fan problem is odd, as is reduced wireless reception. Did you do an upgrade install, archive & install or clean install? My PB's fans do not run more as a result of Tiger.
For a number of reasons, I upgraded, even though I know only followers of satan would do so ;-) I'm sure that could have something to do with unstability, but I can't believe it would have anything to do with the fan and reception. I've seen posts on these things on other forums, so I'm not the only one. And the difference is night and day, not just "It seems worse".
My main thing is that I don't see much use at all for Dashboard. Why have it in it's own layer (I know you can put widgets on the desktop)? I would choose to just take it off, if I could. However, I turned off the automatic launching of widgets, and took it out of the dock, which is good enough, I guess.
I'm curious how Tiger has really changed what you do, and how you do it, compared to Panther. The speed is roughly the same (check out barefeats), so it would have to be the added features. I don't think potential really counts, until it is realized (anyone remember opendoc?). kj.
