My wife and I have beige G3's with rev. B ROM's. I installed a 80GB slave drive on mine without a hitch but installing an identical drive in the same fashion in my wife's machine didn't work. Neither Apple System Profiler or Drive Setup see the drive. I double checked all the jumpers and connections.
Put the drive into your system. If it doesn't show there it's a bad drive, you can test by putting the known good one into your wife's and seeing if it shows there.
If it works in yours and not in hers, it might be a bad cable. Check carefully for cuts and shorts.
