Try temporarily disconnecting the CD and plugging the second drive in there, with the jumpers in the correct position for Slave, of course (assuming that your existing HD is set to Master). --- end of quote --- Rev B allows master slave. Only Rev A does not. In the original setup the boot drive was alone on one ide bus. the CD on the other. Both were set as master. If you try to replace the CD with a drive set as slave, it won't work. You can slave a drive to the CD, no problem. Just make sure the jumpers are right. To be clear, a slave won't work unless there is a master on the cable too, master at the end, slave in the second position. Even more clarity...cable select does't usually work on Macs. Be sure it's the slave setting. I go along with Bruce, check the drive alone in a master position. If there's no problem, check the cabling. Routing cables in a Beige (at least the MT with which I am familiar) can be a bear and it's easy to damage them. One more thing. Make sure you plug in the power connector! No kidding. I've forgotten this more than once and had a missing drive mystery until I caught on. Rich -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
