Hi all,

Some female member of this list (Deb?) told me to better
get a special CF-reader instead of a multi-reader. I have
the following question:

When mounting/plugging in the special reader which icon
do you get under OSX, a grey hard-disk or a white drive
with a slot? Apparently some readers have a USB-to-ATA
converter so those should show as a harddisk.

When I plug mine in, I get a white 'removable disk' icon, similar to USB sticks and mounted disk images. Alas, my card readers are both at home right now, but I know they were pretty generic multi-function readers.

To Bruce: I checked the 512MB CF-card in a
Windoze-machine and it appears to be FAT, that would be
FAT16. So there's no reader out there that will do je job
on a Mac?? I don't like to buy a PeeCee just to read my
photos.

I'll try to scrounge up a 512 MB CF card and see. I know 512 Meg memory sticks have no problems...heck, my iPod shuffle's 1G and it's FAT16.

Also I just tried a multi-reader of a different brand and
got the same result under OSX checking the card:
Filesystem too big (126620 clusters) for non-FAT32
partition.

This is wrong. FAT16 supports up to 2 Gigs.

I forget...have you tried reformatting it on the Mac? What happens if you try disk repair on the mac?
