<Agreed! All you ever see is ads for iPods, and iTunes. I haven't seen TV
ads for anything else since the G5 first came out.If you didn't know
better you would wonder if Apple was still in the computer business!
Personally, it will be a cold day in hell before I buy an Intel-powered
Mac. I never liked Intel. Even back when I was in the Windozes world I
ran AMD only. My lone remaining PC (home-built) is running a 1.2 Ghz
Athlon (and Mandrake 10.1 Linux). Maybe that will be my future OS of
choice. After all, it's Unix based too.........

1. From the department of "Apple makes COMPUTERS?" comes this story....

About two weeks ago, I was sitting under the tree in the courtyard of my
apartment building writing on my Powerbook since it was too nice to stay
indoors. Somebody riding by on a motorcycle stops, asks me if I'm the
Internet and what kind of laptop I've got. No, I'm not online, I explain,
and the laptop is a Macintosh.... "A WHAT?" is the response. So I give
him a little "tour" of my Powerbook and tell him about Macs. He's shocked
-- he's never heard of them before and has no idea there's even such a
thing as alternatives to Windoze. I guess he doesn't remember those old
"Think Different" Apple computer commercials that used to be on TV, and,
as this thread is pointing out, there doesn't seem to be any Apple
COMPUTER advertising going on presently. Gotta admit though, I was never
much of a TV watcher (the only show that ever held my interest was Star
Trek, at least until the Enterprise series came out), and watch even less
now than I used to, it's possible that there were commercials I missed.

2. Technical difficulties I've had have given me cause to think, "What if
someday something happens to my Macs and I get "stuck" because I can't
afford to buy new ones?" My decision on that one: Learn Linux. If I ever
have to abandon Mac in favor of new OS, it's not gonna be Windoze. My
boyfriend has been a Linux man for years now and he loves it. Someone on
this list, not too long ago, had posted a link to a site about Yellow Dog
Linux. I followed that link and thought it would be interesting to try it
-- IF I could download it, burn it to a CD and run it off the CD just to
play with it (don't want to "disrupt" my Mac just to explore and
experiment). Unfortunately, it was way too big a download for me to want
to deal with on my 56K dialup connection. But, push isn't coming to shove
at this point for me right now: I don't HAVE to migrate to a different OS.
