G'day from Oz

I bought a 1 Gig thumb drive on eBay, advertised as high speed usb 2.

In reality, once it arrived, it takes 45 minutes to transfer 1 Gig. I calculate that equates to 2.8 Mb/s, or about double usb1 rate.

The seller has offered to swap (I posted negative feedback), but I want to know what a realistic time is to transfer 1 Gig at full usb2 rates. At 480Mb/s it should take 17 odd seconds, but is that practical? Is there anybody with a usb2 thumb drive can advise please?

While the USB may be cable of 480MBPS burst the flash memory itself is imposing a speed limit, particularly when writing.
