Thanks Bruce and Daniel. That is what I seem to remember so it is nice
to have some backup.

If you are not part of the solution, there is good money to be made in
prolonging the problem.

I know that this is only peripherally G-list related, but I do not
want to kill the wireless connection for my G4 933 Mac.
I have heard (seen??, imagined??) various reports of some cordless
phone frequencies (ie 900 MHz, 2.4GHz) causing interference with
wireless networks. I have a DLink 714+ 802.11 wireless router right
next to a 7 year old cordless phone that needs to be replaced. Are
these reports true? If so, what frequency should I avoid.
2.4 ghz phones and microwave ovens both will interfere with 802.11b
reception, as they all use the same frequency ranges.
Microwaves are reasonably easy to deal with, just move the computer or
the oven (we had this problem in a lab, they had a computer whose wl
network connection died every time they used the microwave. They moved
the oven about 10 feet away to another bench, which solved the
problem.)
The best solution is to move up to a 5.8 Ghz phone or down to a 900
Mhz one. You can manage a 2.4 Ghz phone and airport by playing with
the channels but the phone will tend to change channels unpredictably.
I saw a 5.8 Ghz phone on sale the other day at Office Max, I believe
for $29, so they're coming down in price, though they're still more
expensive than 2.4 Ghz phones. They're also nice in that they're
digital not analog, and encrypted, iirc, so your neighbors can't
eavesdrop.
