Define 'does not detect the access point like the laptops do'. It doesn't see the SSID, full stop, you have to enter in the SSID every time he starts it up, you have to do the chicken dance every time you want it to work... :-) And what model is the Asus and what did you do to set it up, besides plugging it into the LAN and applying power?
