If I have a speed problem, personally I blame it on my 56K dialup
connection. Even on 9.1 my offline apps ran like a charm (and on 9.2.2
they run even better). My emails come in fast and furious, but my web
browsing wouldn't hurt to have a boost. But then I'd have to get DSL or
cable (spend more money, of course). That being my only "complaint,"
it's
not much to be patient over.
Yersinia, until a few weeks ago I would have said the same thing: all
the toe-tapping (OK, no holes in the walls or masses of torn-out hair)
was due to the slow dialup connection (supposedly 56bps, actually never
topping 28.8), and not to my otherwise very satisfactory computer,
which at that time was a 7600 with 112 MB and a 1GB HD, running OS 8.6
with estimable stability. So then I got a B&W G3 (512MB, 10GB HD, OS
9.2), and everything speeded up some, though at the price of constant
crashes and other anomalies. The significant improvement -- to the
point where it's usually an actual pleasure to check things out on the
web despite the same pokey old phone line -- didn't take place till
upgrading to OS 10.3.3 and Firefox. No more crashes, either.
BTW there's nothing wrong with being a cheapskate; personally I take it
as a badge of honor.
Best,
Victoria
