First are my printers. Both are Apple printers: LaserWriter 16/600 PS and Color StyleWriter 1500. The StyleWriter was never supported by OSX even though I have it hooked to my ethernet network with another Apple product (Apple StyleWriter Ethernet Adapter) which works great in OS9.x and earlier. Is there
any way to keep this as a viable printer on my network?

You may wish to try the GIMP-Print drivers for the appropriate canon model, iirc, the stylewriters were all rebadged canons of some sort.

The LaserWriter has just recently become a problem and only because Tiger dose
not support AppleTalk.

But it DOES support this printer!

Dose anyone make third party software to support this
printer over an ethernet network? Or can I hook this computer into a print
server and go around the Appletalk issue?

Why not just directly connect it to the network? It has a built in LPD. This is one of the really great things about the 16/600 printer; it's so versatile.

You'll need to muck with your router to make it give the 16/600 a fixed IP address, but opnce you do, tell tiger to look at that IP address, tell it it's a laserwriter 16/600 and you're good to go.

If it's that complicated at all....it may just find it on the network.

Lastly I have several Macs that do not support Appletalk IP. One the Quadra 630(ATA), I have been using as a file server (small Mac that uses little power
when left on 24/7.)

If it runs OS 7 or better you can use Shareway IP to connect it. :<http://www.opendoor.com/shareway/>
Any suggestions may be helpful?

Opinion and gripe coming.

Ok, why did Apple decide to leave AppleTalk out of Tiger? I know it is an old and wordy protocol but it has been the networking standard on Macs for 20
years.

because it's ancient history, as far as Macs are concerned and has been replaced by appleshareIP.

Your preference would result in OS'es interminably bogged down by legacy support. we have one of those around: it's called 'Windows'.
