I know this should be easy, but I am frustrated with what should be a

How can I write in Word so he can open it in Works, since it does not
seem
to be a simple as I originally thought it would be?

I could be wrong, but I believe that the only way is for your friend to
first start-up his "Works" application and then go to the "File" menu
and select open from with-in "Works" and select the document that
he/she wants to open. However once the document is opened make sure
that your friend saves the document in the "Works" format or they will
have the same deal to go through the next time that they want to open
the same doc.
