I want to install a second IDE drive in a beige G3 minitower that

It appears that it will take approximately 30-inches of cabling to
attach a
second drive as a slave in the empty bottom bay, although it can be
done
with less if the CD-ROM and Zip drives are moved down to open the
top
bay.
Does anyone know what the maximum cable length is that can be used
with this
machine? I've found one spec that states the limit is 18-inches,
but
I'm
hoping someone has been able to use a longer cable. -Steve

I recently installed a slave ATA drive and I used a 24" cable I
bought
at
Radio Shack. I've had no problems and it seems to be working fine.
I retired the floppy and moved a SCSI drive there with the CD below
it. The
ATA drives occupy the bottom two bays.
I have wondered what the ATA spec says on cable length but have been
too
busy and lazy to hunt it down and read it.

Interesting. Why would Radio Shack have a 24" cable when the max is 18?

Perhaps they know more about cable length than Seagate.
