I Have a G3/288 and a G3/300, use them both. One in garage one in house. Friend has offered to partition my G3/300, put 9.2 and X on it. Would it
be better to simply have 9.2 (which I like and understand) on the 266
and X on the 300. Answer is probably yes but thought I'd check it out
with the experts. I'm 74 and the "learning curve" on X makes me nervous.
If I got frustrated on X, could always use the 266 with 9.2

That's a reasonable solution, though you don't need to partition a drive to install OS X and OS 9 even in bootable form, on it.

However, if yours are beige G3's they may need partitioning to install OS X, which must be installed in a partition within the first 8GB of the drive.

Also, have Netscape 4.7 and and Internet Explorer 5.0 for browsers on
both. Any suggestions for another browser or should I leave well enough
alone.

If you go to OS X go to Firefox or Safari. The WamCom browser is a port of Mozilla 1.3 for OS 9 and is pretty good. iCab is a lightweight browser for OS 9 that works well for a lot of people.
