Oh geez. Do you REALLY believe that OS X is less reliable and less
efficient than OS 9? If so, cite specific examples to support your
claim.
Daniel
Not that simple Daniel. OSX is purposely "less reliable and
efficient" than it could be with very little more effort on Apple's
part.
What sorts of OS-related (not application- or hardware-related)
reliability issues are you seeing with OS X?
You Really interested?
O.K.
1st one.
OS X.2.8 --- installed and running fine.
Telephone ICON on tool bar.
Normal start up routine --
Click on 'phone Icon', click on 'connect', click on 'phone Icon' again,
click on 'Internet Connect' (So I can see the IP address info, and the
send/receive info bars).
Worked fine this way for a few weeks.
All of a sudden ----
Click on 'phone Icon', click on connect.
Click on 'phone Icon' again, start 'Internet Connect'
Connection made, then hangs up. use 'Connect' button on 'Internet
Connect' pane to re-establish connection.
WHY the change. No observable problems with 'Network' settings.
2nd one.
Finder stops running.
Initial screen comes up, Desktop Icons appear, Toolbar items (but NOT
the 'toolbar').
Clicking on 'Finder' Icon gets a message that 'Finder' isn't running.
(Gee, that is a helpful thing)
This I cured by 'Re-Installing' OSX.2, and doing the 'updates to get
back to 10.2.8. That was a couple of hours spent on something that
SHOULDN'T have happened.
For example --- (May not still be the case with Tiger) --- the
'STANDARD' advice to 'rebuild the Desktop' ------ IF they would
fix those little annoying glitch type problems, instead of shoving
them under the carpet, there WOULD BE NO NEED TO EVER REBUILD THE
DESKTOP. (Yeah I'm shouting. I can't believe the 'good quiet sheep'
attitude of Mac users, not raising hell about such sloppy programming
attitudes.)
Huh? There is no "rebuild the desktop" in OS X! "Rebuild the
desktop" was a classic Mac OS thing and does not at all pertain to OS
X.
Right! A better choice of example would have been the 'permissions'
thing.
