The set of disks in question was used on a different model of Beige G3 previously, with success. They are not original disks, unfortunately, but I believe the install that worked successfully before was from these particular disks.
I'm not sure exactly how the HD (stock 6GB) is set up in this unit, but since 9.2.2 boots like clockwork, I assume that it is set to master. Whoever had it before me installed a SCSI 4GB drive as a secondary HD (ID 3). I tried to run the install disk using both an ancient AppleCD caddy-load drive (NOT recommended at all...ran slow as molasses, then gave me an error saying that it couldn't find Startup Disk control panel, even though it's obviously there), and a faster generic-looking external SCSI drive (conflicted with the internal 4GB, and refused to identify any media inserted into the tray). One thing I forgot to mention before: whenever I try booting with the C key held down, the computer will attempt to boot from the CD, seem to fail, then boot OS 9 instead. I can already tell that this attempt is gonna be a whole lotta fun......... -Adam -- Adam Vaughn Collector of old computers, video game systems, radios and other electronic equipment...
