One has gone on mine as well in the last couple of months - top one. I
think it's a common problem since the B&W was the first machine to use
FireWire and the ports were a bit flakey. For a while I was able to get
it working again by resetting the PRAM multiple times, but even then it
would only appear in OS 8.6 or 9 and not OS X. Now it's completely dead.

If I really needed FireWire on the machine, I'd probably buy a PCI card.
