Maybe so, but why Intel? AMD would have been a better
choice, although riskier. 
The perhaps hidden philosophical argument is IBM's
wholesale adoption of open source Linux OS. Apple
wishes to remain a closed (esp. in terms of the GUI)
"proprietary" OS. This attitude also applies to
hardware (e.g. "authorized" Ram installation on the
mini). 
I'd have thought Apple's exhorbitant profits (e.g.
iPod) would have served a better purpose in helping
IBM develop the G5 (esp. a portable "mobile" version).
