The Beige has the floppy removed and sports 4 HD's and a CD combo drive. Can I put 4 HD's and the CD in a B&W? If not in stock mode, can I use the rear
HD sled for a Beige, or, is there a dual sled available for the B&W?

I'm not sure the PSU's beefy enough to drive four HDDs; can't remember if there are three or four available molex power connectors. B&Ws use an entirely different type of drive sled from the Beige, but there are mounts for three such sleds on the floor of the B&W. Dual drive sleds aren't always easy to find, and consequently tend to cost a few bucks on ebay. Ask on the Swaplist if anyone has one or more for sale - you might get lucky.

Also, I'm currently using an Atto OEM Ultra-wide SCSI card that Apple sold with this machine. Somehow it's crippled, per an Apple technical doc, and will only support 2 internal drives and no external drives (though the card that Atto sold direct could address 16 devices whether they were external or
internal).

Dunno what "crippled" OEM card you're talking about. All the ATTO OEMs I've ever heard of have fully functioning internal and external connectors. The OEM UL2Ds I've used show in ASP as dual channel cards; I've yet to use the external connectors, however.

I'll need to support 2 UW SCSI internal drives but also external SCSI-1
legacy drives that were connected to the built-in SCSI that the Beige has.

Do you have any recommendations for a SCSI card that will allow me to have UW SCSI or faster (since one of the drives is faster that UW) internally and
support legacy external drives (even if an adapter or special cable is
needed).

The ATTO ExpressPCI PSC is a very good 40 MB/sec UW card with 50 and 68 pin internal connectors, plus 68 pin external. For 80 MB/sec Ultra2 LVD I'm very happy with my OEM UL2D. Both cards fully support OS X and are flash upgradable.

I also like the Initio Miles U2W (80 MB/sec Ultra2 LVD), but the firmware needs to be flashed (in the Mac in which you intend to use it) for *either* OS 9.x *OR* OS X - trying to use it in a dual-boot system would be a real pain. Contact me offlist if you're interested in one of these; I have a couple with original software CD-ROM that includes Conley SoftRAID.
