actually since the original poster was saying he couldn't play it AT ALL on his DVD player, I'd say it's entirely germane...it means that the problem is NOT one of NTSC versus PAL.

Another point: is it a DVD+R disk? Older DVD players will have more trouble with this format than they will with DVD-R; newer macs will read and write both without a problem.
