d has up to date virus, firewall, and spyware software. This was all dictated by employer security requirements. However, the Beige G3 has not been online for some time. The virus software is an old version of Norton AntiVirus which is no longer supported. Likewise, the browser is dated -- the last version of Internet Explorer. And, I do not have firewall software. The OS on the G3 is 9.04, but I plan to update to 9.2.2. I may add OS X, but I don't expect to convert until I can afford a new G5. Any recommendations for firewall, virus protection, and browser software appreciated.
You are already running the best protection- a Mac. You do not need virus software, or a firewall fancier than your current home router. There are no exploits or virii that are in the wild for OS 9.
Move on up to 10.2 if you have enough ram on the beige, it is well worth it. You realistically need 512Mb, but can run with at least 256 depending on what you use your beige for.
I recommend Wamcom at http://wamcom.org/. It is the latest version of Mozilla that will run on OS 9.
