I knew that someone would know for sure. The fact is that I was just guessing as I don't keep up with MAC history, because it means very little to me. But then if your a MAC historian I guess the you have to keep the fact straight.

MAC history is inextricably intertwined with the history of the Ethernet standard <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet> , just as Mac history is inextricably intertwined with that of Apple Computer.

Sorry to join in on 'Pick on Harry' day, but I get SO tired of seeing MAC used to refer to Mac computers.

MAC is an acronym for "Media Access Control". PC is an acronym for "Personal Computer", Mac is a *contraction* of the full name Macintosh.

You don't call someone named Elizabeth 'BETH', or James 'JIM', or Harold 'HARRY', do you?

No, it's Beth, because 'Beth' is not an acronym.

It's about as impossible to eradicate this usage in the outside world as it is to eradicate the bizarre notion that the plural of 'virus' is 'virii', but here in a Mac-oriented mailing list could we perhaps get it right?
