B&W Rev 1, OS9.2, Eudora 6.0
This has happened to me before, possibly due to a different cause
(can't remember)...
Today a houshold circuitbreaker popped while I was loading my e-mail.
On rebooting I got the message to say that the mailboxes had been
messed up and did I want to rebuild them? I clicked yes... and
suddenly found well over ten THOUSAND messages from the last 5
months, long trashed and emptied, in my In box.
There is now only one copy of Eudora on my system... so how can the
hell can half a year's worth of messages just reappear? In addition,
all the messages in the IN mailbox which I wanted to keep have also
now a ? designation, making it not worth attempting to sort them out
from the "deleted" mass!

Do you have some sort of "FileSaver" such as Norton SystemWorks"
running?
No, nothing at all. I've heard about Norton, and not much of it was good...
I suspect that this person had it right:
To explain: There is a known bug in POP3 with certain popular
servers. When mail is left on server, it can corrupt the flags and
make it appear that the mail has been deleted when in fact it has not.
I also found, on being prompted, that "Delete from server when
emptied from trash" had become unchecked, probably due to a Eudora
upgrading. I can't do anything about POP3, but I have rechecked that
item.
