Two years ago I called 911 on our primary POTS line. I was immediately connected to the emergency services people in Camden NJ -- several towns to the west of me. When I told the lady I was in Cherry Hill, she quickly told me to call the Cherry Hill police directly, then hung up.

Bottom line: PR campaign notwithstanding, 911 is not the beat all end all people think it is or want it to be. ALWAYS have local emergency phone numbers available!
