Hi there, We get a lot of these Actiontec modems donated to our computer reuse nonprofit. Often, doing the firmware update gets them working properly again. The most common failure in the older Actiontec modems that have a built in Ethernet hub is one of the Ethernet ports dies-sometimes switching ports is a solution. Another solution we have done is using the modem portion of the modem, connecting to an external router (usually a wireless one) and letting the router spit out the IP addys. We also encourage users to switch providers. We have a lot of smaller DSL providers available to us here in Eugene, OR-Qwest "conditions" the phone line and the DSL provider brings the internet in. Much better service and support and only about $12.00 more a month. Our nonprofit is fortunate to be close to a Clearwire tower-we get wireless internet access-it is cheaper by half, and the speed is 4 times what we were getting with Qwest (and we have over 40 machines sharing the internet connection). My download speeds right now is running 1600 kbps give or take- raino Computer Reuse and Recycling Center
