Unless of course he wishes to go external, which he is contemplating.
There are some obvious values to an external firewire or USB 2.0 drive
too, such as the ability to use on other systems or copying cd's w/o
hassle of creating a disk image.
The OWC drive isn't exactly a fast drive 4x. He also wouldn't be left
with many options for it later on, in an external enclosure, should he
decide to upgrade to a 16X or even faster DVD/RW drive.
