Speaking of which: what is the release date for the Intel Macs? If
memory
serves, (and, no, it usually doesn't) the summer of '06 was given as
the
release date for the last of the PPC G5s.
No, according to the WDDC, the low-end MacTels will come out first, and
the hi-end MacTels later on.
So, Minis, eMacs and maybe iMacs with Intel chips should be available
in summer of next year, and Power Macs with Intel chips in '07. Hard to
say when the last G5 PM's will run out, though.
I'm betting Intel will be working with Apple on some very sophisticated
CPU's for the Power Macs, maybe dual core 64-bit, and very possibly
with SOaC (system on a chip) technology (wouldn't surprise me at all),
which will have hardware-based security, i.e., can't run OSX on a
WinTel PC, plus higher security for other copyrighted software and
files.
The hackers will probably be angry and get ACLU lawyers to sue Apple
for restriction of trade or something ;-)
All the best,
Ken N.
