Sometimes the personality card in the beiges gets pulled up out of contact
with some or all of the contacts in the slot, often when it's been taken
out & the mobo worked on. Re-seating it, pushing back down as far as you
can (without unduely flexing the mobo) can restore the sound...at least it
did in my case. Check the contacts on the board, too, for corrosion or
dirt, treat with a rubber eraser if necessary.
