I do have OS 9 Install disks. Nothing on the hard drive to keep.
Then it is very straightforward:
Turn on the Mac. Insert the install disk for OS 9. Hold down the C key
on the keyboard until you get a smiling Mac icon onscreen (this forces
a Mac to boot off the CD instead of any hard drives).
After a while you get the OS9 desktop. Open the CD icon, open the
"Utilities" folder and start the program "Drive Setup".
Now you can choose to just format (erase) the hard drive, or also
change the partioning if you want to.
After the Mac reports a successful formatting, quit Drive Setup.
Now start the "Mac OS Install" program. Just go for all the default
settings, and this process is more or less automatic.
When finished you can restart your Mac, which will now boot up in OS9!
If the install CDs you have are version 9.0 or so, it's a good idea to
upgrade further to at least OS 9.1. I think this is a free download
from Apple (though big, hope you have a broadband connection...)
