Dear Folks, Has anyone used iEmulator to set up a Windoz session in OSX? Successfully? Or not? www.iemulator.com It's cheap and supposed to be faster than the open source stuff or VPC on OSX.... if it works?
It's based on QEMU, which is free, here's an OS X port with a GUI: <http://cordney.com/QemuX/>. It's slow, and has no networking support that I could figure out. To install Win98, all I did was make a disk image of the CD with Disk utility, changed the extension from .dmg to .img and QuemuX saw it, and went. Took pretty much all day long to install, though I was doing other stuff the whole time.
Perhaps if you just have to run some PC software, but I was not impressed with Qemu's performance on my 800 MHz G4 with Win98. (I never could get Win2K to install properly)
That said, I'm not very impressed with VPC's performance, either, but a large part of this is probably due to the slowness of my Mac. I just saw VPC running on a brand-new dual 2.7 Ghz G5 (and he got a 30" Cinema Display to go with it...ahhhhh, schwing!) and it was quite sprightly.
Another software question, specifically for Bruce: I noticed you commented on DragonBurn as being less than great. I'm curious which version you tried and what it didn't do for you.
Probably a rather old one, as it's been a while, and ever since Disk authoring was introduced in OS 9, I've just never seen the need for paying for another program to burn CD's.
I'm also exposed to the Windows version here, and it's drek in my opinion.
We also get Nero on the systems now, why I don't know, as Windows XP has a perfectly capable disk authoring system built in (better in one respect than OS X'es, in fact, since it allows multi session CD's.) If people want something to make music CD's I just install iTunes for 'em. (everyone who's ever started using iTunes has continued using it, except one professor who thought his kids were so nice to him and got him a Sandisk MP3 player...until I showed him my shuffle and how easy it was to sync. They may be disinherited by now ;-)
People get used to sticking in a blank cd and treating it like it's a big floppy. All these programs just get in the way. I shouldn't have to start a separate program to burn data to a CD.
