You need 2 things to install Panther on a G3 All-In-One (molar): plenty
of memory (a must) and the utility XPostFacto. If Mac OS 9 works well
on your SCSI drive, then install that last utility onto it and run it.
Then through it install Panther. Be warned, I found Panther a little
heavy on a G3. Your thought about upgrading to a G4 is a good one, I
did that (as well as changing my IDE hard drive to a bigger one, like
40G). There is also a hack on the web about making a Radeon 7000 to
work on a G3 AIO's integrated monitor (although this is for the very
bold). The site is at:

That's all I can think of for now. Good luck.

I'm panning to upgrade my Molar from OS 9 to OS X. I've got a number of
questions, perhaps some of you have the answers, or at least
experienced
and wise guesses.
1. I was thinking that this 300MHz Zif wasn't going to handle OS X all
that well. I thought about upgrading to G4, say about 500MHz. But a
friend
of mine freaked out, saying that Molars don't handle G4 very well.
Can any of you confirm this?
Do any of you run OS X well with a mere G3 300MHz? With a G4 upgrade?
2. I own OS X Panther, not Jaguar. OWC advertises a free program that
allows one to stuff Panther onto one of these Beige Molars (ugh - I've
never used those two words together before!).
Does this install program really work? Or is it still flaky on a Molar?
3. The current IDE drive in this Molar is 4GB. I'd like to get a bigger
one, but budget may force me to postpone purchase for about two weeks.
I think I can stuff Panther onto 4GB - at least if I remove all the OS
9
stuff to the SCSI drive I've placed in the Zip slot.
Do you concur? How easy is it to transfer an installed OS X from the
4GB
IDE drive to a new 80GB drive? How does one do this? (OS 9 was easier
regarding this kind of thing, eh?)
I've more questions, but perhaps I shouldn't drown the list with my
ignorance. Not all at once, anyway.
