SETUP:
Cable modem with a D-Link router.
(Connects OK wirelessly w/2 G4 towers, and one iBook)
PROBLEM:
G3 400 B&W running 10.3 w/768MB
Trying to join this network with a Belkin PCI card.
The card shows up in 'About this Mac' .
Airport status bar is dark.
Network Setup Assistant could not help.
I keep getting 'Unable to establish a network connection' message.
The Internet Connect Summary box shows 'connecting' - not 'connected'.
What am I doing wrong?
Jim,
I don't have a Belkin PCI card but I do have one of their USB Wireless
gizmos. I had to configure some settings in its control
panel/preference pane too.
Also heck your security settings: (1) do you have the router
configured to allow the B&W's MAC hardware address to access
wirelessly? (2) have you set your WEP key (or whatever) on the B&W?
(3) did you enter a dollar sign in front of that key when you entered
it? Apple's Airport needs the "$" sign. (at least it did on my setup -
YMMV)
Sometimes rebooting the computer and router helps.
Nancy
