I'm not real familiar with this route -- what would this entail? Does this provide me an AppleTalked ImageWriter? I thought the IW needed an internal card before it could do that (which also provided an ethernet port). ??

The 7200 route is actually pretty tempting, though I hope it doesn't disappear (this is an office at a university I share with a number of others, fwiw). I've got an old beige G3 that's awfully flakely (doesn't seem to find the hard drive; can't recall the firmware message off the top of my head, but it keeps repeating after a few minutes trying to boot saying it can't find the drive or some such) that perhaps I can coax back to life. This VNC server looks like a decent option under Classic, which, unf, is all the iMacs are putting out (which is why I wouldn't use X to share the printer and, therefore, VNC for OS X): http://www.chromatix.uklinux.net/vnc/ download.html

Thanks for the help, and if you've got any more info on the serial to ethernet option, I'd be interested to hear about it.
