You don't say what machine you have, beige G3, B&W, G4, but it sounds

Unless you use XPostFacto.

Could someone please give me a brief summary of the differences
between the capabilities of a master drive and a slave drive?
I've got a slave drive that won't allow me to boot from an OSX
install, but will allow booting from OS9. Could this be because it
is designated as a slave?
