This is the basic advice:
Hold down the option key while dragging it with the mouse. The cursor
will
change to a hand icon when you move the mouse over the closed control
strip. Once you do that, you can drag it wherever you want on both
sides
of the screen.
There is also a Control Strip panel in Control Panels under your Apple
at top left.
I loved the Control Strip, and learned to use it well in OS 9. I almost
miss it, though the Dock in OS X is better, I think. There is a free
utility available that makes the Control Strip quite useful: I think
it's called Strip Launch. Until I switched to OS X, I loved using this
as a way to access apps, utilities, folders, and documents. I tried
many launchers under the Classic Mac OS (OS 7 on, anyway), and Strip
Launcher (that looks better) on the Control Strip worked best.
