Have you tried deleting the preferences for DVD player? You might want
to use the application Pacifist to extract DVD player from your Jaguar
disks, it could be that your copy got corrupted.
You should only need to reinstall Jaguar as a last ditch effort. To
reinstall, one of the options is that comes up during installation is
to do an Archive and Install which will keep all of your current
settings. You will still need to run the 10.2.8 combo update to get
back to 10.2.8 from whatever version is on your CDs.
If everything worked fine in your G3, it SHOULD work fine in your G4,
that is why I am suspecting a corrupted DVD player app or preference
file.
Have you repaired permissions since you moved the disk? It probably
won't help this problem, but it couldn't hurt.

Yes, the icon bounces in the dock for about 3 seconds, then it stops,

I have downloaded VLC, it works flawlessly. Temporarily, I think I

Could it be that I moved this OS and drive directly from a G3 400 into
this G4 450 without upgrading OS?
I can't afford Tiger or Panther yet, so how do I reinstall Jaguar from
scratch and still save my settings?
I know about Carbon Copy Cloner, I used it when I upgraded from my G3
333 to the G3 400, but still there was some issues that were not
fixed. Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

Everytime I launch the DVD Player, the computer does nothing. This
is
not the first time this happens, same thing happens when I launch MSN
Messenger. I am running 10.2.8, on a G4 450, 649MB RAM, DSL
Connection, Classic 9.2 on the background. I have no idea what are
the specs of the DVD, all I know its the one that came with this Mac
(DVD-ROM SR-8585 ATAPI MATSHITA).
A little more info would help. Does the icon bounce in the dock? If you
right click on the icon and Show in Finder, does it show you the
application? Does the DVD drive show up in the More info section of
About this Mac? Have you tried downloading another video player (like
the VideoLan Client at videolan.org) to see if it works? Does the DVD
drive recognize CDs or other inserted media?
