I notice that most of you seem to use more than one browser for internet purposes. Can
you tell me which you use and why?

Firefox: my main browser, use it out of habit, mostly, since I've been using Mozilla in one form or another since Version 0.6.

Safari: Use occasionally, FF has problems printing some pages, I also use it to test things to make sure they work with Safari. There's nothing wrong with Safari, I've just never gotten into the habit of using it.

Mozilla, Netscape: I support users with these, and the menus are all slightly different.

IE: When I absolutely have to I grit my teeth and fire it up. Given that the Mac version of IE is long, long obsolete, more often than not, if I need to do something in IE, I use Microsoft Remote Desktop and use it on one of our server PCs in the office. That said, most of my interaction with IE is telling people "Don't use it, it's crap." and scouring spyware out of PC users' systems.

If I run into a site that claims it only runs on IE, more often than not, I can just change the user agent string and get in with Safari. (You need to enable the debug menu for that. <http://tinyurl.com/7ld9>)

One really useful tool I've found is PDF Plugin, which lets you open PDF files within the browser, (which support Adobe dropped for a couple of versions) at <http://www.schubert-it.com/pluginpdf/> Free for personal or academic use. I like it better than Adobe's browser plugin, and if there's a feature (some forms features and stuff like that) that isn't supported by the plugin, you click on the gear menu and re-open the page in Acrobat Reader. This works in all OSX browsers *except* IE.

Oh did I say "Don't use IE, it's crap"? :-)
