Is it necessary to keep OSX on the first 8 gig in an iMac? I thought that was an issue only with the Beige G3s? I upgraded an iMac DV 400 MHz with 160 gig HD, a small partiton for an OS9 emergency boot volume, and the rest for OSX.3. Works like a charm!
Or maybe your iMac is too old for this?

I put a 120 GB Maxtor HD in the iMac which I set up with
3 partitions, 7.9 GB for OSX, 30 GB for OS9 and the rest
for storage.
