<Yersinia, it sounds like you bought from OWC, as I had. I guess I
shouldn't bash 'em too bad, as they *do* say it's a gray CD in the item
description. That said, they should really change the CD picture that
they put up with the item description page. Instead of the orange and
white general installation CD, which could lead people to believe that's
what they're buying should they miss the description, it *should* be a
picture of a gray OEM CD. I hit my other "used Mac reseller" links, to
compare pricing, but it seems the other resellers are properly
describing the OS CDs they're selling (if it's system specific, they say
so) as being OEM. Perhaps Hardcore Mac's pricing is a bit up there, but
I didn't know how hard the general installation CDs are to come by, when
I was shopping for one this summer.>

OK, so maybe I did buy that CD from OWC instead of Hardcore Mac -- like I
said, I can't exactly recall anymore. See, not only was it awhile ago,
but I looked in three or four places (the first of them being LEM, and
THEY were the ones who drove me to look elsewhere because I thought they
were too expensive) before finally finding the one I ordered. But the one
thing I do distinctly recall was making sure to read all descriptions
carefully and look at the pictures, and I swear on my rats' graves that
for the one I ordered, the description did NOT say "gray," and the CD in
the picture for that description WAS orange and white! That's why I was
so shocked to open that package and see a gray CD in there!

<Eventually I'll get around to rebuilding both of my beige G3's, although
from what I saw in a recent AIO thread, my AIO still might not work,
even after I change the PSU, if the problem was with the flyback
transformer. Thanks to an an initial pre-eBay offering by one of our
fellow list members, my beige MT will be clocking 400MHz, while the AIO
will be at 333MHz (which is what I'd upgraded it to before it died). I
recently had to pass on a $525.00 G4 Cube system (1st gen. 17" Apple
LCD, CPU, keyboard, mouse, speakers) at a shop in Indy, for as close to
Christmas as it is and I'm still saving for the hit my wallet will take
when I actually go do my Christmas shopping. I'm still wanting to add a
G4 Cube to my Mac collection, and I still might get around to buying a
Mac mini, although a 20" iMac G5 is on my short list of future purchace
plans. I'm planning to setup an iMac G5 with Logic Pro as part of a home
recording studio, but I'll have to see what I can do with my 400MHz G3
MT and Cubase VST v4.5 until I can afford the newer "toys.">

Hahaha, well, my Beige (a DT) has seen some improvements so far, and will
see one more, soon -- a faster processor (in fact, that reminds me...I'm
going to have to post a request for instructions to this list, but
that'll come under a different email). In any case, the Beige I'm using
now came with 96 megs of RAM, which was upgraded first to 256 and then to
its present 768. Also, the original internal CD-ROM drive was replaced by
an internal CDRW drive. And, I had to "repair" it once: the floppy drive
died, so I took the floppy drive out of my old 7200/120, put it in the
Beige and it's been working good. Then I used the free downloads to bring
it up from the OS 9.1 I installed on it with the gray CD which kicked off
this whole conversation, so that's how I got it up to OS 9.2.2.
