Sorry this reply is so delayed.  The answer partly depends on your operating
system.  If you are using Tiger, some pretty fancy "core graphics" are enabled
by using the correct AGP cards.    I bought the ati 9600 modified for the Digtal
Audio by OWC  for about $120 and it does implement "core"   for probably less
than half the price of other cards.  I think these are original equipment (oem)
"pulls."

This card is now available from OWC fir $89 and will work in an MDD.   It is a
real upgrade, particularly, as I said, in Tiger.  I like mine a lot.   The
flight simulator X-Plane which is very demanding of a graphics card, is amazing
with the 9600.
