Is there some kind of trick to make Ethernet active on a beige G3/333 (rev
3)? I'm trying to network one to my 9600 using an Ethernet crossover cable.
However, when I try to make Ethernet active in the AppleTalk window, I get the
following error message:

"An error occurred attempting to use Ethernet. Make sure your Ethernet
connections are correct."

This computer was previously used in an office setting where it was networked
to other computers. However, both hard drives on it (one SCSI, the other IDE)
have been reformatted and a clean copy of OS9 installed on each. I get the
same Ethernet error message no matter which drive I use as the startup disk.

Everything is fine on the 9600 end. I know the crossover cable is good, but I
get the error message on the G3 whether the cable is plugged in to the
Ethernet port or not.
