Hi everyone,

My husband is currently using my old Pismo G3 laptop (which was "used" when I got it, via eBay). It is a terrific little machine but as is found in many of the Pismos, the CD drive works erratically, at best.

One problem is that I have Microsoft Office 98 installed and my husband has created his resume and other documents using Word. But there seems to be some corrupt file or ? within the Word application. When he emailed me the resume to print (using my desktop)... it came through saying it had a problem with the "macros". Yet, my husband said he didn't do anything like that (no tables, etc) when created the document.

I suggested just trashing/deleting the whole Office suite and then doing a fresh install... but of course with this machine, the CD drive may choose not to work when we need to install again. It would not work the other day when we tried to install the laser printer drivers, so he could just print *directly from* the Pismo...

Any suggestions? A) does this seem like a way to "fix" whatever is wrong with the Office suite, and B) is there any trick to make the CD drive actually *work* in this machine?

Thank you very much. My husband lost his job last Thursday when the company he worked for suddenly closed (yep, bankrupt) - so we are in a serious bind and need this stuff to work! He prefers to use the Pismo as it can be "his" computer now and travel with him, etc... as opposed to using the desktop here at home.

Take care,
Michelle & Herd
