My webhost (and mail server host) did *something* a week or so ago,
don't know what, maybe moved my server or something, but I think
there was a change in the directory structure, because all of the
folders I created in my IMAP account started acting funny, giving
error messages about not being able to find the director for a
particular folder, etc. Also, the folders now show up in a slightly
different location in the folder window than before. Previously, I
couldn't create nested sub-folders, but since this change, I can.
Anyway, since they have done this, I can't find my 'sent items'
folder in Mail.app. Even by searching for them. For instance, I
just sent a 'test' email, I scanned through the folders looking for
the little twirling line that normally shows up beside the sent items
folder during a send, but couldn't find one. Keep in mind, I have
over 200 folders. I have 4 different 'sent items' type
folders....that I didn't create, Mail.app created it. The strange
thing is that my Pismo at home and my QuickSilver at work, each
created and use a different 'sent items' folder, even though both run
the same version of OSX. Shouldn't they both use the same one? It
makes it tough finding sent messages sometimes, I have to search
through both folders instead of just one shared folder.
Under my folders list in Mail.app, there is one folder at the root
for my IMAP account (I also have some pop accounts, also at root
level), all of my sub-folders for this IMAP account are under this
one. There are three 'sent items' type folders. They are "Sent
Items", "Sent Messages" and "sent-mail". None have any messages
since they changed that 'something'. They do have messages, but they
are older.
There is also a "Sent" folder at the root level, where all of my sent
items (in separate sub-folders, one for each account) used to be,
regardless of whether it was from the IMAP account or the POP
accounts. Now it only has two sub-folders under it, one for a POP
account and one for my .Mac account (pop also I believe).
There is one more 'sent' type folder at the root level named "Sent
Messages ([EMAIL PROTECTED])", but it is empty.
I don't see any place inside Mail.app (preferences) to see what exact
directory and location that it is saving its Sent messages to. There
is a checkbox that you tell it to store the messages on the server,
but it doesn't specify the directory name or path. Is there any way
for me to find out exactly which directory its using?
Is there a way for me to get both machines to use the same 'sent
items' folder?
Thanks.
