An ethernet network is almost mandatory nowadays... As I now have a DSL connection all the Macs are connected to the router/DSL modem via an ethernet hub (and the XP box of my daughter, too). As all the macs are connected anyway I've set AppleTalk to "Ethernet" and share the files between the Macs as needed. The G3s usually talk at 100 Mbit with each other, the Wallstreet allows only 10MBit, but even that is significantly faster than the old AppleTalk wiring, using printer or modem port.
