Wow... Just my experience Glen.
I had a Rev. 1 B&W-300. Dropped the original 6.4 GB drive for a 60GB and everything seemed to be just fine. Added a 120 GB drive and it failed completely after 3 months. The replacement from Hitachi failed after 'bout a month and a half. Left the 60 by itself and things were okay for a while. THEN the =problems= started... first applications under OS X (Panther) got a little quirky... quitting for no reason or simply not starting. Next the OS started freaking out... Kernel panics, locking up... only pulling the power cord could shut it down. Multiple restarts were required to even get the machine running but then opening most apps would lock it up again. Tried to reinstall, but that mostly ended in a kernel panic. During this time OS 9 was fairly stable, but unpredictable... apps would =mostly= run, but sometimes not.

Got to the point, my baby sat unused for about 2 months till I got a Rev. 2 motherboard. Been about two months now and my B&W has been rock solid. Running 20 and 60GB internal drives and 40 and 250GB firewires. Hasn't been a hiccup!!!

Hope there is another solution to your problem, but the Rev. 1 does have issues with different drives!

This one's weird and got me stumped. I'm trying to install Panther 10.3 to an empty IDE drive on ATA bus 1 on this B & W (see spec's below). The OS X install disk installs the core system but fails to ask for the second disk needed to complete the installation. It only says finished without asking for the
second disk and then restarts to a kernel panic.
