Does anyone think removing the Adaptec 2930CU would help? I know on
some
unsupported Mac's removing certain PCI cards is necessary to install
OS X. But
then the B & W (rev 1) is supported. And according to the Adaptec site
so is the
2930CU.
I had problems installing OS X 10.1 and 10.2 while my Adaptec 2930CU
was installed, removing the card fixed the installation issue. Funny
enough OS X 10.3 installed just fine with the card installed.
Removing that card is one of the things I would try first. Second I
would make sure that only one memory module is installed, preferrably
the one which came with the Mac, because sometimes out of spec memory
can cause strange things. You can put 'em back when you're done
installing the OS, nine out of ten times they will still work fine.
Also remove all but the original PCI video card to be sure nothing is
interferring with the installation.
Make sure you've jumpered the HD for master according to the settings
on the site of the manufacturer, or sometimes it's printed on top of
the HD or at the bottom (FYI: some Western Digital HD's need to have no
jumper at all to make 'em master). Do not connect a slave HD to the
master HD on a rev 1 B&W G3, it can cause corruption or other funky
things. One big HD jumpered for master should be fine, I still have a
40GB boot disk in mine, there are people with much bigger drives in
their rev. 1's.
HTH,
Marc
