Well then,
I have a quick question, let's see if anyone is lurking online or
everyone is flying to San Francisco;-) ...
I forgot which key combination you need to use to get a screen capture,
and where is it going to be located afterwards ...
I tried a few combinations, so I might have actually managed to get
the picture, but I have no idea where to look for it anyway ...
Thanks to all lurkers in advance;-)
Cheers
Andrea

Are the Maclaunch servers bogged down today, or is everyone waiting
with baited breath for the Keynote?
Uh, why? The keynote is not until _tomorrow_. That's approximately
forever
in Internet terms. Presumably everyone can find something to do
until then?
I was basing the comment on the number of posts that appeared on the
Swap, G- and PCI-lists today. Very few, probably in the bottom 2% as
to the number of posts that appear on a daily basis. Therefore, my
comment about the servers, or people too wrapped up in the
possibilities of the announcements (see the recent iBook thread here)
to post more mundane things.
Any recommendations for a good blog to read for the realtime play by
play?
Oh, GAWD! 30 seconds after Jobs' opens his mouth, whatever he says
will be
broadcast from the rooftops. Is that not enough?
That is true, but CNNs take will be slightly different than a true LEM
view, which will be different than Slashdot's or Ars Technica's view.
I am a salesman in my store as one of my many job titles, along with
CIO, CFO and sometimes I get to be the BOFH
(http://www.theregister.co.uk/odds/bofh/ ), which is the job I enjoy
the most. It never fails that during the Keynote I get the retired
couple that needs to debate for 1/2 hour whether they want round or
square handles on a $30 used file cabinet, and need my expert opinion
to back both of them up.
Sorry, but his ego is quite large enough for me already. Please
let's not
compound the felony by hanging on his every word.
Yes, his ego is one of the biggest in the business world, but he has
at least earned it. with Apple stock going from around $10 per share
to nearly $80 per share since he came back in 1997, while MS has gone
from about $18 all the way to $30 in the same time frame.
I am hanging on to most announcements, not every word. The
announcements tomorrow will most likely affect my near term decision
to replace my aging beige at work. Is the G4 mini going to be End of
Lifed, to be replaced with an intel mini? Will that drop the refurb
minis into the low to mid $300s?
I apologize for sounding so bitter and jaded, but trust me, if you
were in
this part of the world, you had an [expletive]ful of MacWorld a week
ago.
It is, after all, a trade show.
Yes, it is just a trade show, but a trade show that is about the one
thing that all of us on this list agree on, and therefore is our
common ground. It doesn't matter what political affiliation, sexual
orientation or dietary choice we may have chosen, we almost all agree
that the Mac is a better personal computer system and are frequently
willing to spend $300 to upgrade a 4 or 5 year old system, rather than
spend the same amount on a fresh out of the box dell with a monitor.
Yes, if you live near SF (which I am guessing you do from your
comment) you are probably fed up with everything MacWorld by the time
it finally starts. But that happens with every large event. In my
hometown, we have a large party and parade every four years, called
the Presidential Inauguration. People come from all over the country
for the Ceremony, parade and parties, and it is a BIG DEAL for them.
For us locals (my kids are the 6th generation here), it is a big pain
in the wazoo. Streets are closed weeks before, security is tightened
(just try and get a Ryder rental truck within 3 blocks of the White
House and yes, some of my drivers have had to answer questions with an
automatic rifle pointed at them) and our customers are insisting that
we deliver their furniture, even though the streets around their
building are closed to trucks.
That is just the price we pay for choosing to live in areas where
"Interesting" things happen.
